Marilyn Maureen Munster is a member of the Munster Family. She is the niece of Lily Munster and Herman Munster, the cousin of Eddie Munster and the granddaughter of Count Dracula.

In the original series, Marilyn was portrayed by Beverley Owen (Episodes 1-13) and Pat Priest (Episodes 14-70), and was played by other actresses in later movies and sequels. Debbie Watson played the character in Munster, Go Home! and this version was continued by Jo McDonnell in The Munsters' Revenge and carried over into The Munsters Today, played by Mary Ellen Dunbar and Hilary Van Dyke.

In the 90s and the the 00s, the character was completely ret-conned by Christine Taylor in Here Come the Munsters; this version continued by Elaine Hendrix in The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas. In 2012, she was retconned once more by Charity Wakefield in Mockingbird Lane.

Bio[]

Marilyn Munster is the daughter of one of the unidentified daughters of Count Dracula and the niece of Lily Munster and Herman Munster. She is also the cousin of Eddie Munster, Herman and Lily's son. In one iteration, it's mentioned that she is the daughter of Herman's sister, Elsa, who had married Norman Hyde, a scientist who tried different potions on Marilyn to make her look more ghoulish like the rest of the family, but her body never responded to any of them.

Not much is known about Marilyn's life. She is the age of 19. Considering she is in college in the 1960s, she was born sometime around 1945, possibly somewhere in the United States, but this has yet to be confirmed. As an infant, she was adopted and raised by her Aunt Lily and Uncle Herman under unknown circumstances. No mention is made of her birth parents' last name, and since dying means little to the family, it's possible they are deceased.

Marilyn is a very kind and genial person, and she looks after both her Cousin Eddie and the family pet, Spot. She is very attractive (although considered the ugly duckling by Munsters' standards) and dates often, but most of her dates never get past the front door of the family home, because they get scared and run away by the scary appearances of her family, especially her Uncle Herman. She attends Westbury College, once nearly losing her scholarship, but Herman had her tuition reinstated. She is extremely close to her Aunt Lily, and the two of them frequently observe her uncle and grandfather getting into shenanigans, both public and familial.

Trivia[]

  • There seem to be three iterations of Marilyn in the multiple franchises:
  • Beverley Owen starred in the two pilots and the first 13 episodes of the series. Pat Priest played Marilyn Munster for the rest of the series.
  • Fans often speculate that Marilyn is a monster like the rest of her family, despite her human appearance.
  • One error may have occurred in the writing of the original series as Marilyn’s last name is “Munster” but she comes from Lily’s side of the family, who wouldn’t have that surname as Lily married into the family Munster. However, it’s possible that she was formally adopted by Herman and Lily and thus had her surname changed to match her adopted family. This is possible as Marilyn says in “My Fair Munster” that she has lived with her aunt and uncle since she was a baby.
